Hey guys! I am so excited to share with you Part 2 of my Florida Panhandle guide. Today I am going to be talking about one of my absolute favorite places in Destin, Okaloosa Island.
Okaloosa Island is home to the Boardwalk which contains some of the best restaurants and bars in Destin. Before I go more in depth, I first want to talk about the beach. This is where I recommend you stop to enjoy the beach. There are beach volleyball nets already set up so all you need to do is bring a volleyball.
If you are military, there is a private beach you can access if you show your military ID. I would recommend staying at the Holiday in Resort. It is easy to spot because there is a large beach ball in the front of the hotel. The reason why I recommend this hotel is because it is centrally located and within walking distance of several attractions. One of the best attractions of the boardwalk is the pier. This is a great place to take your fishing pole and fish off the dock if you don’t want to rent a boat. You can often see dolphins from the pier too. The Boardwalk is home to some of my favorite seafood restaurants in Destin. In particular, I really like the Crab Trap and would highly recommend it. The Boardwalk also contains some of the best nightlife. The Swamp has a great atmosphere and my hubby and I even went to a country concert there. Unfortunately, my favorite bar called Howl at the Moon is now closed. It was a dueling piano bar that was always a lot of fun to go to. I even did a photoshoot in front of the boardwalk a few years ago, so if you’re looking for some great Instagram shots, this is your place!
There is also a tourist shop near the boardwalk where you can pick up souvenirs or any items that you may have forgotten to pack. Also located in Okaloosa Island and next to the Boardwalk is the Gulfarium. The Gulfarium is home to the oldest operating live marine show. Last time I checked, adult tickets to the Gulfarium were being sold on Groupon for $8. I would highly recommend it for both children and adults. I hope you guys enjoyed Part 2 of my guide to the Florida Panhandle! Stay tuned for Part 3 where I’ll be talking about my favorite place to shop in Destin!
